Viral illness woes prompt temporary shift to asynchronous classes in K-10
By Lorene Jasmine Mercado
Concerns on rising viral illness incidence expressed by parents prompted Brokenshire College Toril (BCT) to release a memorandum adjusting the learning modality of learners under Preschool, Elementary, and Junior High School (JHS) Departments and making it asynchronous for the upcoming week.
The memorandum specifies the schedule below.
Preschool Department:
Learning Modality: Asynchronous
Duration: October 9–13, 2023
Elementary-JHS Department
Learning Modality: Asynchronous
Duration: October 9–10, 2023
According to Preschool to JHS Principal, Joshua Lorenzo, learners will be provided with homeworks and supplementary modules for this asynchronous learning, in addition to their given textbooks, which “promote a self-paced learning approach”.
He also mentioned that other preventive measures are to be observed to further lower the probability of increasing incidence of viral respiratory illnesses such as coughs, cold, and fever which are the common cases and cause of the recent low number of attendance among Preschool to JHS students based on their monitoring.
“We will strictly reinforce and implement health and safety protocols within the school premises, including regular sanitation, handwashing facilities, and mask-wearing to reduce the spread of illnesses. Sa pagbalik nila, we will conduct, also, health education to learners to increase awareness of preventive measures and the importance of staying home when unwell.” Sir Lorenzo said in an interview with The Spark.
Currently, this memo is only addressed to the Preschool-JHS Department. Any possible changes in the learning modality of the Senior High School (SHS) Department will be under the jurisdiction of the higher officials involved in the said department and in accordance to the specific needs and circumstances of the SHS students.
