SHS students evacuated the Isaiah building and were held at the BCT gym momentarily.

The school’s maintenance team immediately attended to the issue and confirmed that a short circuit in the outlet caused the incident adding that there was no major damage done.

Teachers and staff ensured the safety of the building before classes were resumed at 8:33am in the morning with no casualty recorded.

Several students lamented the observed lack of organization among students during the actual evacuation, noting the absent leadership of class officers who were supposed to be leading the way throughout the entire incident.

“Makita jud na disorganized ang tanang sections. Like, sa leadership sa ilang mga officers dili jud madisplay labi na karun na naa ta sa gym nagkagubot ta,” grade 12 student Maria Alia Beatrice Capenda commented.

“So, makita sa ingon ani na situation na unsa ta ka unprepared,” the STEM student added.

The newly installed High School Student Council (HS SC) officers said that the observed ‘disorganized evacuation process’ calls for the need to pursue the realization of one their proposals to partner with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for timely symposium on fire incident preparedness.

“The buddy-buddy system that was implemented, I guess, last year was not applied right now,” said newly elected SC assistant secretary Daniel Kim Dilla.

“Nakakita kami ng purpose na i-push yun next month na event na merong magpunta dito to tell us what to do if ever may fire. Kay luoy ta if ever na ingon ato man,” newly elected SC president, Dexeena Rose Maratas added.

Newly elected SC vice president Mary Angelie Panim meanwhile noted that the fire alarm was barely audible on the second and third floor of the Isaiah building where majority of the students were housed.

“Walay tarong alarm. Sa second floor and sa third [floor] dili siya madunggan. Sa first floor lang siya na dunggan. Mao na ang nag-cause ug panic ganina kay wala jud tarung communication,” the SC officer commented.
