BCT dominates DAPRISA Games ’24 girls athletics tourney

Brokenshire College Toril (BCT) clinched 15 gold and 11 silver medals in the high school girls division of DAPRISA Games 2024 Athletics events, held last December 3 at the University of the Philippines (UP) Sports Complex.

In the individual games, Nicole Antonette Tampus led the mining for gold by securing 3 gold medals after winning the 800-meter and 1500-meter-long run, with another gold from the 3000-meter steeplechase.

In the 800-meter run, Tampus defeated fellow Brokenshirian Princess Laika Maiz and Revie Cuerte of the University of Mindanao (UM) Main.

Tampus secured her other two golds after beating another fellow Brokenshirian and sister, Joanna Paula Tampus in the 1500-meter run and 3000-meter steeplechase leaving her Joanna to take the silver medal.

Khrizia Shailey Nuñal also achieved a triple gold victory after winning the 100-meter and 200-meter sprint, with a default win in 100-meter hurdle.

Nuñal faced BCT delegate, Sierra Dela Peña (silver holder), and Lea Gwyneth Basco of UM-Main in the 100-meter sprint.

Her other gold was bagged in 200-meter sprint after winning against another fellow Brokenshirian Subrinah Monte (silver medalist) and Keira Ysabel Baluso of UM-Main.

In addition, Kate Audrey Lagazon showcased her versatility, winning gold in both the shotput and javelin throw, while also securing a silver medal in the discus throw.

In shotput, Lagazon defeated fellow brokenshirian Raine Velvestre, who claimed the silver medal, and a UM-Main delegate, April Ann Autentico.

The javelin throw event on the other hand was a BCT-dominated win with a gold from Lagazon and silver from Velvestre.

Sierra Dela Peña also increased the gold count after winning in the 400m sprint against Subinah Monte of BCT and Heather Separis of UM, with another default win in 400m hurdles.

In the walkathon 2000-meter category, Kate Miena Iturralde won a gold against fellow Brokenshirian, Marian Aguinaldo who finished with the silver.

Julia Uriarte also bagged another gold medal winning in the long jump category by default.

The team games also kept the momentum alive as Nuñal, Monte, Dela Peña, and Nicole Tampus won gold in 4x100-meter relay against Baluso, Separis, Basco, and Keziah Sindag of UM-Main with another gold by default in the 4x400-meter relay.

The girls’ team is set to prepare for to ride their seats towards the Davao City Athetic Association (DCAA) Meet happening this February 2025.
